Why You Must Keep a System Image Backup of Windows?



Everyone who uses windows they need to install new copy of OS almost in a regular basis. There might have many reasons. Some of these reinstall windows to get rid of virus in case of corruption in system files. There is another reason that is, many people find their PC slower after a long time usage with a single installation. For a number of reasons you may need to reinstall windows.

But unfortunately, the experience of reinstallation OS is not good at all. It is seriously time consuming. After getting reinstalled you have to install the common software you use frequently. You also need to update some programs like antiviruses.  So it is a matter of some hours.



The good news is that, you can easily avoid the hassle of reinstallation procedure very easily. Windows has a great backup system which allows you to create System Image Backup which can be the solution of re-installation. Please note that, I wrote this basically on Windows 7. 

What is a System Image?
Yes! It’s a Great query. A system Image is just a clone of your System Drive. For more easier, a System Image is the exact copy of your Operating System. Anytime you can create a system image backup. You cannot create the backup of individual files in this case. You also must restore all of these files when you do.

How to Create a System Image?
Now it is the time to start the process. To create a System Image, click:

  • Start
  • Control Panel
  • System and Security
  • Backup and Restore
  • Create a System Image (This option is at the top of the left side)


You will find a good deal of options to choose about the location and scheduling. The creation of a system image may take 10- 15 minutes or more/less depending on your programs.

How to Restore a System Image?
After making a system image backup, you are free to move! You can get back your better performing windows by restoring the system image. It will format your system drive and replaces the existing data of only the targeted (System) drive by the System Image data. To restore a system image, click:

  • Start
  • Control Panel
  • System and Security
  • Backup and Restore
  • Recover system settings or your computer
  • Advanced recovery method




Here you will get the option of choosing the system image from your preferred media.  You also will see the option of fresh installation. Whatever, now you need to select the first option (Use a system image…) and choose the backed up system image. Then your PC will take a restart and complete the restoration in some easy steps.
